In connection to the Penumbra Literary & Art Journal here at CSU Stanislaus, we are holding a Creative Writing Competition. Open to all current Stan State students, we welcome you to apply for and submit to this competition of fictional poetry and prose writing for the chance to win a seat in writing workshops hosted by our judge Elizabeth Upshur, and a $50 e-gift card. Along with this comes a guaranteed publication of the winning piece in Penumbra's Spring 2022 print journal. We welcome poetry submissions of no more than 500 words or prose submissions of no more than 1,500 words and require each submitter to present no more than a maximum of three works to submit. We ask that participants submit their applications and piece to our email: email@example.com under the subject lines of either "Contest Submission - Poetry" or "Contest Submission - Prose" by October 15, 2021 at 11:59 pm. We are excited to see the creations of the students here at CSU Stan, and hope to see you participate.
For writers, the process often results in them working alone for extended periods of time as they operate within their own heads. Discovering ways to interact with others in a frequently isolated field can easily be appealing.
On July 18th, Penumbra introduced a zoom based writing club where people have the opportunity to do just that. Hosted by multiple current editors for the online journal, participants are able to exercise their creative writing skills while also workshopping with each other to introduce other perspectives to their work.
Participants are able to exercise their writing in a new situation and seek advice from peers with varying experiences on what they work on during that time. Open to any writers who wish to sign up for a small donation of 5 dollars per meeting, writers are offered a space to practice, improve, or even just get into writing.
